The good news is that the incoming governor of California, governor-elect Jerry Brown, is a former California governor who granted more than 400 pardons in the past. It is a VERY good time to apply for a pardon.

I was just wondering what anyone thinks about the fact that the lauttenburg law unconstitutionally takes away a man's gun right's for life. I am not a happy camper about this. Yes, I made a mistake when I was younger. No I did not use a gun. No I was not convicted of a felony. Yes, it was a misdemeanor domestic charge with no weapons of any kind involved. Does anyone see something wrong with this picture. Especially since I have been a model citizen for the past 15 years as this happened back in 1996. Now I was told actually that after 10 years I can buy a gun during this court proceeding but it hasn't happened because they will not let me buy one. Does anyone see something wrong with this picture? Please let me know what you think. Thanks.

I don't know how many Pardons are given in Calif. each year. I got one in 1986. I got out in 1970 and as soon as I was able I filed for a certificate of Rehabilitation which I received. This started the Pardon process. They sent out a person to interview me and all my friends, employers, and who ever they felt like contacting. The person they sent out to do my interviews was an asshole. He tried to make everything as negative as possible. The Judge I went before was a pretty good judge. He told the Investigator he was wrong. It took me 16 years to get my pardon from at the time Gov.Dukmajian. (spelled wrong) I was in foster homes, boys School, and YA in my younger years. when I was 19 I was sentenced to the Federal Prison in Lompoc, Ca.. I did 2 years there for theft of Government Property which were Guns. I got out there in 1967 and got caught for 3 counts of 2nd degree burglary where I did 2and a half in Tehachapi, Ca. I got out of there in 1970 and was returned back to Lompoc, for Parole Violation. I did another 9 months. Since I got out I have gone back to school and got an AA Degree. I got a Teaching Credential at the same Jr College I went to and taught 3 semesters of Small Engine Repair. I got a Real Estate Sales License sold R.E. off and on. I own firearms. It can be a long road but its worth it. I'm 65,and still going.

I got a felony back in the early 70's. I applied and got a cirtifacate of reabilation a few years later. After many years I went to work for a government job. And never got into trouble again. I thought that when I got this cirtifacate from the courts it would automatically go before the Governer for a pardon. I'm now retired and would really like to know if I did get the pardon.

Governor Brown gave 20 pardons last year (2011. Of those 20, only 2 had actually be sentenced to prison.

I also received a call last night from the Governor's office with the news that he granted my pardon also. I spent 9 months in prison on a drug conviction.

I'm a reporter with Fox40 News in Sacramento. We're fascinated by the pardon process, and how people turn their lives around. If either of you two would be willing to chat with me about it, I'd love to hear from you at ben.deci@fox40.com

I'm happy for Crystal and Terry, Merry Christmas! I to received the Certificate of Rehab in Feb of 2012, but no pardon this year. After reading the 79 pardons I noticed that some folks have been waiting many years for their pardons and then a few waited only months. I am wondering what those few did to merit the quick pardon? Congrats! Pablo :-)

Thank you Governor Brown. I was given a pardon this last week and I feel like a "real" citizen again. For those of you who have made mistakes in the past, there is hope for a pardon. Hang in there and be a good friend to people be a good citizen and be a good role model for others. Thank you again Governor Brown.

To Ron Price: after you received your pardon, how long did it take before you where able to exercise your second amendment right?

I was convicted in 1994 of a domestic crime with no weapons or drugs involved. I served my time and completed my parole and all classes and paid all restitutions required by the court with no violations. I am still waiting for my full pardon and this is my only mistake. How long must I wait.
Sincerely

I also received a pardon from Governor Brown Christmas eve 2012. It was app. 10 years after receiving my certificate of rehabilitation. A long road but well worth it.

I received a call from the Governor's office yesterday (Sunday); they advised me that I was granted a pardon. This is awesome!!!

Sadly some may never receive a parson that are deserving.. convicted in 93, certificate of rehab in 09 and still waiting with no word if the governors office even received the automatic application.

I am currently re-applying for a pardon. Sentenced to 3 yrs in 1997. Got a certificate of rehabilitation in 2006 just after I graduated from Davis with a BS in biochemistry. The Governator at the time denied my request... Now I am a research chemist, captain of neighborhood watch and trail crew volunteer but still have no civil rights. I also lost a position doing after school math and chemistry group tutoring for the Fairfield school district due to my background. The law is F'd up! After 20 years I think I proved that I am a model citizen that made a mistake when I was young. I am sure there are many others who are facing the same challenges after a lot of hard work...
